Mount Pelion
Agios Lavrentios Village in Pelion
This is a traditional village on the mountain of Pelion approximately 20km from Volos and at an altitude of 600m. In Agios Lavrentios there are many old mansions such as Sinis, Katrgis and Glanani.
In the village you will find old cobbled paths, which you can take long and enjoyable walks along. Not far from the village is the Byzantine monastery of Agios Lavrentios, which is dated from 1378.
The monastery was built by the monk Lavrentios, who came to this area from the monastery of Athos in Meteora. Another church, which is very famous to the Greeks, is Agiou Apostolou Neou.
On August 15th and 16th is the celebration for the memory of the monk Lavrentios. A large ceremony takes place and people from all over Greece travel to pay their respects to him.
If you like a nice walk you can follow the paths which lead to Drakia and Hania, and enjoy the spectacular scenery which surrounds you, and admire the beauty of nature.
During the third weekend in June every year, the festival Kerasiou (Cherries) takes place and here you can enjoy a show of traditional dance and song.
