Mount Pelion
Drakia Village in Pelion
The village of Drakia, which is set at an altitude of 500m, is 18km from Volos and 8km from Agria. Workmen who came from Hipeiro and who lived in the area built the village in 1655.
The famous Greek painter Ioannis Pagonis from Hipeiro came and lived here. His frescos are still big attractions in the area and can be found in many old houses, mansions and churches all over Pelion.
The large square in the village is said to be the oldest in Pelion, and from here you can take picturesque walks along the cobble-stoned paths in the village. The scenery is magnificent with beautiful trees and vegetation.
You must visit the church of Agios Ioannis and look at the frescos by the painter I.Pagonis. Also if you can, you should try to visit the old mansion of Triantafillou, which is one of the most beautiful in Greece.
The new road, which connects Drakia and Hania, makes it very easy to escape to the slopes for some skiing at the winter ski centre of Agriolefkes.
