Mount Pelion
Pteleos Village in Pelion
This village is 60km from Volos and 25km from Almyros. The village was named after the elm trees that grow here, and cover the village as they did in the old days. The villagers' main occupation here is growing olive trees and stockbreeding.
Close to the village you can find the beautiful and very clean beaches of Pigadi (Well), Ahillio, Agia Marina and Lefki. There are also the beaches of Rothia, Panagia and Karavotsaki, which have been awarded the "Blue Flag" by the E.U.
There are often quiet a lot of cultural festivals in this area, but the biggest one is the carnival of the last Sunday of Halloween, which takes place at the end of March, and the "Olive Festival" which takes place in August at Ahillio.
There are also religious festivals that take place. On June 8th is the celebration of Agias Theothorous, July 27th for Agios Panteleimonas, August 15th for the "Memory of God Mother of Theotokou. August 23rd is for the memory of Panagia Xenia (The Holy Mother, Protector of Hospitality).
