Kanalia Village in Pelion
Kanalia is a village in the northwest of Pelion and is 26km from Volos, and at an altitude of 80m, close to the drained lake "Karla".
In the old days the villagers were occupied with fishing that took place at the lake, but today this has been replaced with farming.
The area is very rich is vegetation, especially with almond trees, which are said to bring an early spring if they flower in the middle of winter.
The main festival in this village is in the winter. It is the festival of the "Blossoming of the Almond Tree". Here you will find handicrafts and copper work.
Further out of the village, you will find the ruins of the ancient city of Voivi. In the main square of Kanalia, there is the open museum which explains and takes you through the old lifestyle, showing such things as old fishermen tools, reconstruction of the old huts and old boats, all from the old days before the lake drained up.
